Southsea Castle is a historical attraction where visitors can explore the keep, enjoy the panoramic views and grab a bite to eat in the cafe! It's open between April and October and it's free to enter!
There's plenty of displays inside for you to learn about the castle's history and see some of the key artefacts. There's a model of King Henry VIII and a replica of the famed Cowdray Engraving which shoes the scene as the Mary Rose keeled and sanked. There are lights that showcase major points of interest about the castle and surrounding area.
You'll also find artefacts that were recovered from the shop and a display showing the effort that went into the firing of the castle's cannons.Finish your visit with a walk along the ramparts where you can see Southsea Common and offers views down into the courtyard below.
There's also the option to go underground for a short guided walk, allowing you to delve into the history too.
The castle also hosts many events throughout the year, so make sure to check the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
ake the M275 into Portsmouth, following signs for City Centre. Then take the A3, signposted for Seafront, before joining the A288 – Kings Terrace and Pier Road. Turn left on the Pier Road Roundabout onto Clarence Esplanade. Southsea Castle will be on your right in 0.6 miles. Parking is available at The D-Day Story car park.
