The National Wallace Monument is a famous landmark in Stirling and stands above fields where Qilliam Wallace led his troops to victory at The Battle of Stirling Bridge. Enjoy breath-taking views as it's open to visitors all year round
You'll start your visit by making your way through the ancient woodlands of The Abbey Craig. The trails lead to stunning viewpoints of the landscape and overlook the city of Stirling.
Follow the woodcarving trail where you'll learn all about Stirling's fascinating history, from the ice-age to the building of the monument itself. The route takes around 20 minutes where you'll end up to the entrance of the monument.
Once you reach the mobument, you'll need to climb the 246 steps. The first gallery is the Hall of Arms where you'll learn how Wiliam Wallace has been remembered since his death. Make sure to locate The Wallace Sword here which is a powerful symbol of his courage and skill.
The Hall of Heroes tells the story of Scottish people who have followed in Wallace's footsteps.
The Royal Chamber is the third-floor gallery and you'll learn some interesting facts about The Battle of Stirling Bridge. See the weapons that were used and use the viewfinder to look across the land.
You'll them reach the top of the 220ft tower and enjoy breathtaking views in all directions from The Crown. You'll see Ben Lomond and the Trossachs and Forth Valley and more. There are display panels too which highlight areas of importance that you can see.
The Monument is located just outside Stirling – and is signposted from the City Centre, from Bridge of Allan, and from the M80, M9, and A91.

Visitors who are unable to climb the staircase can use the facilities and watch the introductory video presentation in The Keeper’s Lodge, at the entrance level of the Monument. (There are 2/3 shallow steps leading into The Keeper’s Lodge). Toilet facilities are also available at the entrance level on the ground floor.
