Lochleven Castle is a late 14th century tower where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567, and she spent a year here as a prisoner. It's a great chance to explore the history and enjoy the spectacular views too.
You can take a boat ride over to the castle and followin the footsteps of some famous people in history. You'll see the tower, which is still complete, and enjoy the quiet, and relaxing island setting.
You'll be able to stand in the tower house rooms where Mary was held against her wine, admire the Glassin Tower, a circular residence built in the 1500s, roam the island take in the views and go for some woodland walks. The website has a fun fact finding quiz too that you can use whilst exploring the castle.
The castle is open during May - September and seats on the passenger boat are limited, so it's best to book in advance to gurantee a spot! You'll find lots of picnic areas too, so make sure to bring some snacks and drinks with you!

A small boat ferries visitors to the island. Visitors must be able to step into and out of the boat.
The passenger boat is not equipped to carry passengers in wheelchairs. Water levels and weather conditions may make access difficult for visitors with limited mobility.
