About Peatlands Park

Peatlands Park offers an ideal setting for a relaxing and fun family day out! It has a network of way-marked paths crosses the woods and open bogs. Enjoy taking in the pretty views and seeing which wildlife you spot on your adventure.

The narrow-gauge railway associated with the original turbary (turf cutting) has been reconstructed and train rides are available for visitors in the summer! This is a perfect way for kids to burn off some extra energy.

Bogs are the last home of unusual and interesting plant and insect species. The peat here has been forming for about 10,000 years.  Walk along the boardwalk of the bog garden and see for yourself interesting bog plants and animals.  The park is rich in insects, particularly butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies. As well as peatlands, the Park contains considerable areas of semi-natural deciduous woodland. Annagrarriff Wood is long standing and contains plants and animals that have disappeared with the clearance of ancient woodland elsewhere. Much of the Park has been protected as: National Nature Reserves, Areas of Special Scientific Interest and Special Areas of Conservation, because of the rare habitats and wildlife found here!
A short stroll around the Bog Garden will give you a chance to see almost all of the flora and fauna associated with this precious peatland habitat. So what are you waiting? Head there for a visit now!
