About this activity

Montacute House has lots to see and do both within the house and in the garden and parkland. There's lots of walks and trails to explore, as well as lots of seasonal events that are ran by the National Trust. 

For families there are lots of great picnic spots including the Garden Orchard on the South Drive. It's a great area for eating picnic and for games such as hige and seeks. Around the stables are wooden picnic benches as well as some covered areas in case the weather takes a turn for the worse!

From the wobbly hedges to the tropical nature of the orangery, there's lots to explore in the garden. It's just one of the few remaining Elizabethan gardens, with beautiful flowers and colours that changes with the seasons. Check out the porters lodges as they were once a home for servants, or explore inside the house and the history it has! 

There are waymarked walks all throughout the woodland areas, and little ones can run around and see what wildlife they can find along the way! Head up to the prospect tower which offers views of the Somerset countryside. 

Finish your visit with a trip to the cafe and shop, which is filled with local products and gifts that you can purchase and take home.
