The Bishops Palace

The Bishops Palace is a grand palace surrounded by 14 acres of gardens and has 800 years of history! It's in the heart of Wells and is a beautiful space in the heart of England's smallest city. 

At the site, you'll find acres of gardens, a medieval moat, palace, chapel, play areas and an award-winning cafe where you can refuel. The gardens at the palace are a haven for tranquility and were awarded RHS Partner Garden status in 2016. The palace itself is open for all to enjoy and is surrounded by a breathtaking moat. 

Walk the flagstone drawbridge and experience a hidden gem, there's history around every corner. Walk in the footsteps of past bishops through a number of different rooms in the palace.

There's also lots to do for familities too! Try and spot the swans ringing the bell for foof, admire the waterfalls and springs and even take part in a spot of pond dipping. There are trees to climb and places to hide in the Arboretum and there's plenty of children's trails to take part in through the gardens. 

Explore the far corner of the gardens to look for the Dragons Lair and walk through the palace to see portraits of past bishops and find the green dragons.
