Chard Museum is a hidden gem and brings the story of Chard to life in a warm and welcoming environment. There's plenty of exhibitions and displays for you to explore and also areas for you to get outside and have a picnic whilst you're here too!
Inside the museum, you'll get to explore the cider room and discover the horse powered cider mill and hand powered apple press. The old kitchen has an eclectic collection covering several decades. You'll see cooking utensils, traditional old range, baby's crib and more as you step back in time and find things from the past.
The Victorian classroom is an old school-room and you'll learn what was in the classroom, lessons that were taight and explore the large photographs of Chard schools on the walls. There's also carnival carts and costumes and they change every year too.
There's also a multi-media room too where local businesses and organisations have shared their histories of people who have lived and influenced the local life.
Whether you live in Chard, or are just passing through, it's an interactive and family-friendly museum that uncovers the past history through lots of stories and collections.
The museum may be found on the A30 (northside) about 400 metres west of Chard town centre.
