Museum of Somerset has 400 million years of history on display! There are contemporary gallery spaces, collections and lots of family-friendly visitor facilities and attractions.
In total, there are nine themed galleries. The Foundation Stones showcases how the Somerset landscape was created and the Claiming the Land gallery shows how people began to farm the land and lay the foundations of modern life.
There are galleries showing how the Anglo-Saxon settled and defined the borders, galleries for reflection, transport and industrialisation, and how Somerset gained a reputation as a rebellious county during the 17th century.
See the skill of the Banwell Bear, the Low Ham Roman moasic, cauldrons and skillets and even the world's heaviest birds! Whether you live here, or just visiting, it's a fascinating look into Somerset history.

The Museum of Somerset is housed in Taunton’s 12th-century-castle. It is within the picturesque Castle Green area of Taunton town centre.
