About this activity

Hestercombe Gardens has three centuries of garden design to explore, with the best in contemporary art and regular activities for both children and adults to get involved in!

For families there are fifty acres of beautiful countryside and fresh air to explore! You can pick up a wildlife spotting sheet at the centre and enjoy one of their fun garden trails and seasonal events too. Spot wildflowers and butterflies, play hide and seek and much more for a fun day out.

There are two children's play areas. The one near the visitor reception is for ages seven and under and is kitted out with slides, playhouses and woodchip so children can play safely! There's also a play area overlooking the Charcoal Burner's Camp in the landscaped gardens for the kids to burn off some energy.

During the holidays, there's also lots of family friendly activities such as wildlife hunts, model boating race and traditional charcoal burn where you can experience the old-fashioned life of a woodsman. Make sure to check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.

With lakes, woodland walks, formal gardens and more, it's a great place to visit with the whole family for some fresh air and relaxation!

Hestercombe Gardens FAQ’s

Situated in the historic stables and cart house in Hestercombe’s Visitor Centre, the Stables Restaurant and Caffè + Gelato are the perfect places to indulge with some great home-made food.

Visit Hestercombe's new Gallery Shop for beautiful local handmade gifts.

The majority of Hestercombe’s historic estate was built at a time when little thought was given to making places accessible, so they have made reasonable adaptations as far as they can within the limitations of a listed building and grounds.
