About this activity

The Bodleian Library is perhaps the most famous library in the UK and undoubtedly the most beautiful! The main research library for the world-renowned University of Oxford, the Bodleian is also famous as the filming location for Harry Potter!

As well as being the UK's prettiest library, the Bodleian is also one of the oldest, officially opening in 1602. Since then it's reading rooms have been the centerpiece of study for generations of monarch, nobel prize winners, Prime Ministers and famed writers such as Oscar Wilde and Tolkein.

There's something for everything at the Bodleian with over 13 million texts to see! Quite a bit of reading to get through! If that all sounds a little too much to get your head around then the Bodleian is packed full of tours. The guided tour around the library is perfect for hearing about all the intrigue and historical figures that have roamed these hallowed halls. For the kids, the family walking tour is perfect, 'Once upon a time' is how all good stories start and trust us when we say Oxford has plenty of those!

For a fun family day out with just a sprinkling of culture, the Bodleian Library is the perfect day out!
