The Sywell Aviation Museum in Northamptonshire charts the history of aviation with aircraft cockpits, uniforms, photos, dioramas and more! The aircraft viewing area is one of the most popular parts of the museum, as children can learn how to fly a vintage plane and are given an exciting tour of the controls of the plane.
It won the Museum of the Year & Best Exhibition in the Renaissance Heritage Awards 2007, was Highly Commended in the Northants Heritage Awards 2011 & won Best Special Project in 2012. So head on down to learn something new and understand Sywell's role from the 1920s through the dark days of WW2. This includes viewing a wartime kitchen, an Anderson shelter, a WW2 bomb tractor, a bomb trolley, an original WW2 Flight simulator. With these sights and special tales of how the civilian population coped with bombing during the war, it's a memorable day for everyone regardless of their knowledge of aviation history.
The USAAF Hall includes many exhibits devoted to telling the story of the friendly invasion of ‘Yanks’ in WWII and The Paul Morgan Hall is named for one of Sywell’s much-missed personalities, an aviator and engineer, sadly killed in an accident in his Sea Fury on 12th May 2001. Visit both to learn about interesting parts of aviation history like Aircraft construction and maintenance.
Sywell Aviation Museum is located in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside at Sywell Aerodrome Northampton. If you arrive from the Sywell village direction they are the third entrance on the left; if you arrive from the Wellingborough direction they are the first entrance on the right once you’ve seen the tail of our Jetstream sticking up above the hedge.
