About this activity

Penshurst Place and Gardens has something for everyone, whether you want to explore the house, grounds or even visit the toy museum and play in the adventure playground. The whole family will enjoy the whole day here!

The house itself was built in 1341 and you can take a tour of the ten rooms open to the public, including the medieval Baron's Hall, don't forget to check out the gardens and grounds. There's also the new Victorian Kitchen where you'll be transported back in time as you learn about how the kitchen was the heart of the house.

Enjoy the scenic setting of the 2,500 acres of parkland with lots of footpaths, walking trails and cycle routes open all year round.

As well as the house, there's lots of opportunities to play and have fun! Get lost in the woods and discover the countryside, plants and animals on the woodland trail. Burn off some energy in the adventure playground, complete with swings, slides, obstacle course and a mini-zip line too, perfect for all ages.

If that's not all, browse the collection of toys in the museum, from generations! Don't forget to bring a handful of 2ps too!

Penshurst Place and Gardens FAQ’s

The Cafe is open year-round even when Penshurst Place is closed - you do not need to be visiting Penshurst Place to use the Cafe.

The Gift Shop at Penshurst Place is open year round, operating separately to the main house and grounds, the Shop is thought of as more of local boutique, providing a selection of homeware, cards, gifts, Kentish goodies and more throughout the year.

As a nearly 700 year old estate, parts of the gardens and grounds can be harder than others to push a standard wheelchair along, due to terrain and slopes
