About this activity

Formerly Waskehurst Place, today Wakehurst is over 500 acres of beautiful botanic gardens, filled with wild landscapes and plants from all over the world, all in the heart of West Sussex!

All of the collections at Wakehurst are planted using the "woodland" principle, instead of an "arboretum". This means that all the plants have been curated especially to accentuate the stunning, rural natural landscapes.

All of these are then connected to form  a Woodlands of the World walk.

Don't miss Wakehurst's indivdually themed gardens and experiences either.

Wakehurst's Winter Garden weaves 33,000 plants into a bold contemporary composition.

The family can walk down towards the end of Westwood Valley, and see the stunning Westwood Lake comes into view.

Then you might want to take a walk around the lake’s perimeter to spot kingfishers and wading birds such as herons!

Wakehurst has a host of wildlife too, and luckily for you if you just want to soak it all up, you can just take a seat at the numerous benches to enjoy it.

Don't miss Westwood Lake in the autumn either when a spectacular colour display reflects off the still, mirror-like water!
