Choo Choo! We hope you have your conductors hat ready!
Take the family back in time for the day with the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway – a fascinating preserved railway experience that will give you a fun steam filled historic trip through some of the country’s wildlife filled bushland.
Departing from Bundamba Racecourse, you will make your way to Swanbank Lake on a Swanbank Vintage Steam Train!
The area itself is steeped in history. At it’s peak the lines were part of a much bigger network that had to move coal that had just been mined in the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Fun fact – it is also the oldest remaining branch line to still be owned and used by Queensland Rail!
If you just love trains, head out for the day, sit back and relax as they rumble you through history!
The Swanbank Power Station has a picnic table and a BBQ area (about 350m from Swanbank Railway Station) so you can sit and enjoy your lunch after your fun train ride! Relax as you take in the view of the lake, or kids may want to enjoy the adventure playground available for them to burn all that energy off!
Kids – have you ever wanted the thrilling experience of DRIVING a steam train!? Each day they can take 2 participants will be accompanied with a driver and a fireman. Each person has 3 round trips each of firing and driving (there are 6 trips over 4km)
At an extra cost, you will learn firing techniques, monitoring and maintaining water levels and steam pressure – you even get your own drivers cap and certificate!
Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway is a great place for train lovers to get up close to these amazing parts of history!
