About this activity

Mount Lofty Summit is just 20 minutes from Adelaide, and rises more than 710 metres above sea level providing spectacular panoramic views across the city skyline to the coast. Sounds pretty great, doesn't it?

Each year more than 350,000 people visit the highest peak of the Mount Lofty Ranges in the Adelaide Hills. The complex features an accredited visitor information centre with interactive touch screens for fun learning.

This spectacular hills garden on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty features cool climate plants and is less than half an hour from the city centre. The collections in the garden come from various geographic regions such as South America, China, East Africa, New Zealand, South East Asia and North America.

This leads us to the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden!

A botanical adventure in the Adelaide Hills, the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is the perfect place to get on those walking shoes, pack that camera and explore!

The botanic garden is spread across 97 hectares with a surprise waiting around every corner. The gardens are dedicated to the cultivation and display of the world's cool-climate plants, so there is plenty to learn about and explore!

The gardens feature cool artwork too, which brings something new and unique to the experience. The trails are the perfect place for you to loose yourself and connect with nature. Plus it's a great adventure!

They are part of a number of science and conservation programs including SA Seed Conservation Centre!

Summit Restaurant and Cafe available.

Some paths are steep and narrow so good walking shoes are essential!

The summit offers a gift shop full of Australian made items as well as a variety of locally handcrafted gifts.

There are disabled facilities at Mount Lofty Botanic Garden and the Lakeside Trail offers universal access. This scenic sculpture-dotted route is accessible to everyone, including the disabled. Each piece of the interpretation has been translated and embossed in braille for people with vision impairments, and an audio trail has also been developed to complement the trail

Free guided walks depart from the lower car park at the end of Lampert Rd. 10.30am every Thursday in Spring (Sept, Oct, Nov). 10.30am every Thursday in Autumn (March, April, May).
