Did you know that Kakadu National Park is actually one of the largest national parks in the entire country? Spanning nearly 20,000 acres, the park extends nearly 200 km from north to south and over 100 km from east to west.

A great place to start your journey is the Bowali Visitor Centre near the main township of Jabiru, located 250 km from Darwin when heading further into the park.

Kakadu National Park really is is a place of enormous ecological and biological diversity, and is World Heritage listed too!

Spanning from the coast and estuaries in the north through floodplains, even billabongs and lowlands to rocky ridges and stone country in the south, there is so much to see.

Home to a range of rare and endemic plants and animals, (including more than one-third of the country's bird species and one-quarter of its freshwater and estuarine fish species), Kakadu National Park really is a place not to be missed!

Directions

The best place to head to initially is the Bowali Visitor Centre, open 8 am–5 pm, 7 days per week (except Christmas Day). Here you can plan your trip, pick up supplies and ask any questions!

They are located on the Kakadu Hwy at Jabiru.

From Katherine,
Explore the park by hiring a 2WD vehicle, 4WD or motorhome from Katherine. Take the Stuart Highway followed by the Kakadu Highway – it will take you about three hours.


If you like a roadtrip, self-drive from Darwin on the Stuart Highway then the Arnhem Highway. For those without personal transport you can hire a 2WD vehicle, 4WD or motor home in Darwin. The journey takes about three hours and there are NT sights to explore along the way

Your entry fee helps us preserve Kakadu’s World Heritage–listed natural and cultural sites and provide better services and facilities for visitors!

There are a few places within the park where you can grab food! Most restaurants happily serve visitors who aren’t staying on-site, so if you’re camping you’ll still find there are plenty of options.

It’s a good idea to check the park’s daily access report for the latest updates on road conditions and seasonal closures.

You can pick up gifts in the various visitor centres!

There are healthy options within the park, and even some local specialities too!
