Fancy spending the day relaxing in a lovely, shady and natural water oasis? Then Katherine Hot Springs is your hidden secret!
Katherine Hot Springs Reserve is tucked away within the Katherine River bed, and actually pumps water from right inside the earth. The water is always a beautiful 32C, so great in those summer month, but also perfect in the cooler dry season months.
Whilst the springs are natural, the town council has spent time setting it up so it’s a great place for families to visit. They have added walking tracks, as well as restricting some of the surrounding area. The main pool has a gravel bed, which means you won’t get that sediment disturbance when you splash your way in, and it also means the water will always look crystal clear!
Katherine Hot Springs Reserve can also be an educational experience for the kids, as the walking platforms has opened it all up so kids can see the actual source of the spring water.
The main pool itself has wheelchair access, so everyone can enjoy it! There are stainless steel rails, so the kids can hold onto something as they get ready to cool down, and the walls are formed out of rock – so you really do get to stay surrounded by nature!
There is a small waterfall, meandering streams, and you get to see where the springs merge into the Katherine River 30 metres away
For those active families, why not take advantage of the walking trails and bike paths in the area? These follow the river, and take you a few kilometres away to the Katherine Low Level Nature Reserve.
Get cool in Katherine!
