Time and Tide in Great Yarmouth explores the fascinating history of the sandbank to the thriving port and seaside resort of Great Yarmouth. It explores the herring industry and the smokehouse remains of today.
You'll discover the colourful characters who made their living from the sea and the rich fishing heritage. You can wander through a Victorian Row and even see inside a fishermans home! You'll hear stories of wreck and rescues on the seas and follow the transformation from a sandband to a bustling seaside resort. There are lively hands-on displays, games, puzzles audio guides and children's activities that bring the story of Great Yarmouth to life.
There are many events and exhibitions on display throughout the year too! One is all about retro games from the early days in the 70s to those on the seafront now. You'll see pieces of vintage hardware, have the chance to play games and immerse yourself into all things gaming!

Time and Tide is a 10-minute walk from the seafront. It’s a 5 minute walk from the historic South Quay, Elizabethan House and Tolhouse Gaol. Great Yarmouth has good public transport links and regular train, bus and coach services.

Visitors with access requirements may bring a companion into Time and Tide Museum free of charge. Access packs containing the picture board guide, companion notes and raised profile images for selected art works, a self-guided accessible highlights tour, a spotlight torch, ear defenders and a magnifying sheet are available on request from the reception desk.
