The Coalyard Miniature Railway is based at Kidderminster Town Station on the Severn Valley Railway. The Railway is open most weekends and is a great day out for all train enthusiasts of all ages!
The line length is approx 500 yards end to end and the line first opened in 1988. It was originally constructed as a 100 metre long dual guage railway. The new seven and a quarter track was laid using heavy duty aluminium in 1990 and gradually was extended to reach the car park.
Did you know that the railway got it's name from a coal merchant who used to operate alongside the station? The line runs parallel and close to the main SVR tracks which sometimes allows parallel running between the minature railway and SVR locomotives.
The operation is usually with petrol or battery powered locomotives, but steam locomotives do run sometimes too. There are some sit in coaches and astride coaches with a rake of narrows guage wagons in between! So head on board with the family!
The rides last for around 5 - 7 minutes in total and is great fun for the family that doesn't cost much either! Once you've finished your ride you can head out around the local area or watch the SVR trains run past for a spot of train spotting!
They have some special events all year round too, so make sure to check out their facebook page to see what's happening when and where.
