The Museum of Carpet is the UK's only museum dedicated to celebrating the heritage, art and industry of carpet making! You'll be able to discovery the unique story of Kidderminster which was once known as the Carpet Capital of the World through visuals, photos and films that are displayed.
The story is brought to life by the passionate volunteers, and most of them actually lived and worked in Kidderminster during the carpet industry glory! So make sure to ask them any questions you may have!
There are fascinating displays and hand and power loom demonstrations, plus lots of hands on activities for you to enjoy! The teamf hand loom weavers demonstrate from 10am - 1pm and the power loom demonstrationas run when possible.
There's an extensive collection of objects, books and more dating all the way back to the 18th century to the present day. The archive is open to research and visits but remembe to book in advance.
You'll also find exhibitions, talks and workshops that explore the challenges Kidderminster has faced during the carpet manufacturing era and how the people have responded. It's really insightful and is a great way to learn more about the area's history.
For families, there's craft workshops too. Learn all about what life was like for children working in a Victorian carpet factory, follow clues around the museums on the trail or design a rug and have a go at weaving on a handloom! There's lots to do for all ages.
The entrance to the Museum is located in then left hand side of the Morrison’s building, nearest Green Street.
