Through its programs of collecting, conservation and exhibitions, as well as its education programs, the Migration Museum aims to create greater awareness of the history and cultural traditions of the different groups who have settled in South Australia since 1836.
The Migration Museum collects objects, documents, costume and textiles which represent South Australia’s immigration and settlement history. The Museum also copies photographs and video material and records oral histories that relate to that history.
Objects that show the impact of settlement upon the Indigenous peoples of South Australia are also of interest to the Migration Museum.
Facilities with children in mind here include pull out drawers in exhibition galleries for that feeling of discovery; computer interactives to bring the stories to life and fascinating Detective Trails of discovery you can pursue through the exhibition galleries!
