Can you hear that? That's the sound of the animals calling you to 229 Safari Lane (what a fitting street name!)

The safari park is located in Rockbirdge country, which is exit 180 or 180B off I-81 in Natural Bridge. They are only minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Lexington.

Where are we going today?

Have you ever seen pictures of Africa and seen all the beautifully unusual and colorful animals that roam across the plains?  At Virginia Safari Park, you can get up close to these incredible animals without having to leave the country!

Bundle the family in the car and enjoy the safari drive-thru zoo, where the animals are free to roam as little or as much as they like!  You have over 3 miles of lovely gravel road, but you best not be in a hurry - because the animals might not be!  If you are lucky, you will be able to feed the animals through the windows with the parks special grain!  We bet you might be the only person in your class to have hand fed a zebra!

You will get to see the animals following their natural instincts.  You might witness two males challenging each other over a female, or if you are very lucky you might even witness the birth of a really cute baby!  You won't have to wait long to see it's first steps either - animals adapt pretty quickly and are up and walking in no time!

When you are ready to stretch your legs (just like the baby animals have done!) then you can head to the Safari  Walk Through area where you can wander past some of the fascinating animals exhibits on offer, such as the Tiger Territory (don't worry - you don't need to feed these guys by hand!) or the super fun Kangaroo Walkabout where you can hop along with the very cool looking kangaroos.

If you want to get really hands on, there is an enjoyable petting zoo where you can feed and pet the goats and their kids (A baby goat is called a kid!!, sweet little potbellied pigs and their even cuter babies, pecking chickens, and baby llamas.

Not enough fun for you?  Good thing they have wagon rides to top it all off!

So let Virginia bring animals from over 6 continents to you, and enjoy these beautiful creatures with the incredible backdrop of the Shenandoah Mountains!

I'm Hungry!

The aptly named Watering Hole cafe has a delicious full menu full of both savoury and sweet snacks and meals. Unless of course you want to try the special grain for the animals? We didn't think so!

Opening times vary depending on the day and month.

.

Any Top Tips?

Don't forget to pick up a fun activity guide book for the kids! It's included in each admission and really fun for the kids to fill out. .

Doing our bit

The park and all its staff pride themselves on being completely dedicated to the animals and their welfare. They do their best to provide the highest standard environment for them to live in. In other words, the animals are super happy here!.

Need a little extra help?

There are wheelchair accesible areas within the park. Even the giraffee feeding stations offer ramps to cater for wheelchairs!.

Can I get one of those?

The Safari Trading Post Gift Shop offers a whole range of souvenirs to choose from, including super cute plush animals and toys, animal themed apparel and collectables, and there is something for every budget!.

More information

Unfortunately no pet animals are allowed in the park - unless you own a giraffe and it wants to visit it's friends! Just kidding...we think. .

Great time with kids and wife. We do have thing that they need to look at. They offer discounts and free feed for active military. I am a veteran and served over seas in a combat zone but that doest apply. They should off the same for vets as we did our time. Overall great family fun!!!!

Absolutely loved our time at the Safari Park. Our 2 sons (2 and 4 years old) absolutely had a blast. The animals are well cared for and in large open areas with plenty of room to roam. I will be recommending you to everyone and we'll be back again soon.

The park was scheduled to close its gate at 4. The park itself doesn't close until 5:30. Due to road construction, I was running behind but I was still there by the published time, actually about 3 minutes early by my watch. When I pulled up, 2 other cars were already being turned away.
I asked the attendant girl what the deal was. She informed me they were closed. I tried to reason with her and tell her that I made it there on time and that I have 3 kids in the car who were looking forward to this park on our drive through the state. Quite frankly,...Read More

I am sure this is a family business. I can't imagine the owners would sanction such behavior from their employees. I will never attempt to give them my business again.
