We were very excited to go to the Observatory. after many many hours of driving we finally made it. When we walked in we went to go pay in the gift shop and the young man with the long ponytail charged us and went through the pamphlet which everyone gets when they pay.. between all of us in our party there were 4 adults and 3 children.. he very unenthusiastically went through all of the lectures, and shows which were listed and informed us that there would be no telescope viewing ( mind you- they inform you that there is no telescope viewing AFTER...Read More

Educational, enthusiastic guide. However we did not feel we got value for our money, the expectations were higher. The museum was closed for reconstruction. The real working telescope was not shown, both telescopes they show are ancient refractors. We expected to see planetarium but there is no such thing. Giving one star just to guide but honesly, anyone interested in astronomy knows most of the facts.

Great job by the staff! If you have a "clear" evening in Flagstaff, and if the sky itself is "clear", I highly recommend a family visit.

We were very excited to go to the Observatory. after many many hours of driving we finally made it. When we walked in we went to go pay in the gift shop and the young man with the long ponytail charged us and went through the pamphlet which everyone gets when they pay.. between all of us in our party there were 4 adults and 3 children.. he very unenthusiastically went through all of the lectures, and shows which were listed and informed us that there would be no telescope viewing ( mind you- they inform you that there is no telescope viewing AFTER you pay) Instead of suggesting ( like a helpful employee would) that there is a child friendly show/experiment happening soon... he said nothing.. All of their shows seem to have very catchy titles BUT BEWARE they are NOT kid friendly.. ONLY the one which the not very helpful employees failed to tell us about was... so in in end we saw nothing.. we went to a very informative lecture which we had to walk out of because it was NOT KID FRIENDLY... the observatory was not even busy.. when I went back into the lobby... nothing was even going on.. there was no reason why the employees could not have been more helpful and instead of chatting among themselves they could have directed us to the the fun experiment KID FRIENDLY show that was going on.. .WHAT A BUST.. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING THEM TO HAVE A FUN EXPERIENCE LEARNING ABOUT STARS THE GALAXY AND SCIENCE....you could do a better job yourself taking them to the library or sitting them in front of a PBS Magic School Bus episode... VERY VERY VERY UNHAPPY with this place...
