Wray Castle is situated on the west shore of Windermere with lots of parklands, trails, beaches and of course the castle to explore, with history around every corner!
At the site, you'll find three way-marked trails to follow around the estate which are ideal for all abilities and plenty to see along the way! Bring a picnic with you and enjoy it on the shores of England's largest lake, or head to the cafe on the grounds for a light bite.
During the warmer months, why not make a splash and swim in the shallows of Windermere lake! It'll be worth bringing some swimming shoes with you too.
Available from Saturday to Wednesday, you can take part in an activity in the castle where you can go on a hunt to spot the details in the photograhy exhibitions.
You can also join the world's largest treasure hunt and take part in some geocaching. There are eight medium sixed caches in the grounds to find and you can leave a message in the logbook too!
Why not explore the lake itself on a cruise? The boats run throughout the day from Waterhead Pier in Ambleside, and then it's just a short walk up to the castle from the gothic boathouse.
From the south and Bowness (via Ferry) take the B5285 through Hawkshead where this becomes the B5286. Continue on this road for 2.5 miles, then take the right hand turn to Wray Castle. From the north and Ambleside, take the A593 to Clappersgate, then take the B5286 signed to Hawkshead. After 2.5 miles take the left turn, to Wray Castle.
