Tynemouth Aquarium has a huge selection of animals from across the world! There's some local and unusual animals to see and learn about which makes for a great day out for all ages.
There's something new around every corner, from tropical jungles to some rare animals too. There is the mississippi river where you'll fnd some fun and unique aimals like turtles, St Marys Island with some wildlife from the local coast, weird and wonderful and you can come up close to some giant fish and rays in the river giants sections.
Explore the tropical seas with the most colourful fish and coral reefs and there's some amazon animals and endangered zones too where you'll learn why some of the animals are disappearing from the environment. Discover predators unique ways of seeking out their prey and how they protect themselves, and admire the seals in the seal cove.
They also have a seal hospital where they take in local seal pups who have been injured and they nurse them back to health and release them back into the wild. Some of the healthier pups can be seen on display.
They host a wide range of events and talks and you'll be able to catch these on your visit. Make sure to check out the website to see what time they feed the animals as you'll learn lots from the friendly staff!
Follow the A19, taking the A1058 (Coast Road) signposted to Tynemouth. Then follow signs towards Tynemouth Seafront.

The majority of aquarium displays are on one level and there are some steps to certain displays, however these displays can also be seen from the ground level.
