Take the little ones and teach them about the history of commercial art and get involved with some of the fun exhibitions. 

The Great Museum of Hancock

This is Newcastle’s great museum of natural history, geology, archaeology and world cultures. One of the very few museums to have a living planet gallery which tells a great story of the history of Hadrian’s Wall. Check out some of the stories of the magnificent fossils and discover the ancient Egyptians. Kiddies love this museum in particular as they have the chance to touch the fossils and immerse themselves in the great ancient Egyptian history.

The Shipley Art Gallery 

This leading art gallery is best known for its art and craft. The Shipley began collecting contemporary British Art back in 1977 and is known for its best collections of contemporary art within the UK. The gallery is also home to the Henry Rothschild collection. The Shipley runs several exhibitions for families.

Greys Monument

Greys is one of the most iconic landmarks in Newcastle. Name after Charles Grey who hailed the North East and because the British Prime Minister in the 1830s. The monument is stunning and wonderfully tall. You can pay to climb it if you feel brave enough. Not suitable for kids under the age of 10. If you’re not fond of heights, then you can still admire the beauty of Greys Monument and take a picture of the family on the famous steps.

Jesmond Dene

This gorgeous park is a pure oasis of calm in a very busy city. Jesmond Dene Park follows the river Ouseburn and is one of the most beautiful nature spots in the North East and acts like an important habitat for wildlife. Take the little ones for a walk along the narrow-wooded valley which is a mixture of exotic and native trees and includes wildlife such as red squirrels and kingfishers.
