About this activity

Farleigh Hungerford Castle stands in the beautiful valley of the river Frome and has so much for visitors to enjoy, whatever your age! The caste is steeped in history and there's lots of intriguing stories to explore.

You'll get a free audio tour included in your visit and you'll listen to some gruesome stories along the way! There's many hidden treasure, rare medieval wall painting and family tombs to explore and a the best collection of human-shaped lead coffins in Britain.

You'll find the coffins underneath the chapel, and the coffins still contain the embalmed remains for four men, two women and two children. Some even have faces moulded onto them which gives a chilling glimpse into the past.

In the Priests House you can see an exhibition of the history of the castle and displays of Hungerford armour, a model of the castle and plenty of pictures from different periods.

The towers still remain visible that you can walk through and you can also head through the garden and the gateway towards the chapel.
