About this activity

We all know and love the iconic Cutty Sark, and for the very first time since the Cutty sark arrived in Greenwich back in 1954, you can actually CLIMB the rigging and enjoy a taste of what it would have been like to actually sail the ship! It's all waiting for you at the aptly named Cutty Sark Rig Climbing Experience.

Cutty Sark partnered with Wire & Sky to offer this amazing experience to families who want to not only visit the ship, but enjoy something more special by climbing the rig and taking in the views of the Thames like you have never seen them before!

So kids, are you ready to take on the challenge?

Your experience will start with a briefing underneath the ship's fmous hull, before testing that bravery when you take on the challenge step up from the Main Deck on to the ship’s 'ratlines' (rope ladders).

Then make your way up into the rigging, exactly as hundreds of sailors would have done during the ship'slong and fabled career at sea.

When you finally reach the platform (congratulations!), make sure you stop and take a breath to allow you to enjoy the view.

Then one final challenge awaits you: the Lower Topsail Yard! Here you just have to grip the horizontal bar and hold on tight as your shuffle your way along the footrope.

Don't worry, you will have a controlled descent to take you from the rigging back down to the Main Deck.

What's also great is that your Rig Climb ticket includes free access to all areas of the ship so make sure you allow time to explore the Cutty Sark and its displays in all their glory, from the crew's cabins, to the world's largest Merchant Navy figurehead collection!
