Where are we going today?

Art is a wonderful thing! It's not just paints either, and it's something that can inspire kids to get really creative! The Museum of Contemporary Art is a great place for kids to experience themselves in the art world.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago is actually one of the largest facilities that is devoted to modern art - which means there is LOTS to see!

Art doesn't have to just be paintings like you might think. It can come in all forms - which is great for kids to understand! From sculptures, video and even performances...there is no right or wrong answer. As they walk around the exhibits, they can look at the colors, and the shapes, and the techniques used. What do they think of them? It's amazing what different opinions might come out from each member of the family!

That art you will find in the museum is from 1945 onwards - it's modern after all!

Keep and eye on the exhibitions because some are always changing. Each exhibition often represents a different artist who specializes in a particular type of art.  There is also an amazing collection of a number of art pieces - from surrealism to minimalism.

There are actually 2,500 objects in the collection, and only a small amount are shown and rotated, so even with the permanent collection there is something new to see on your next visit!

The museum knows that people love to learn, so they often have programs, talks and screenings - and even live art - that you can experience. From docent tours, to family days, there will be something that will capture you!

You're never too old or young to become interested in art. You never know how the museum might inspire you!

I could spend hours at this museum... and I have. It's fantastic. They have exhibitions that are wonderful, but what you'd expect, and they also have exhibitions that are amazing and are nothing you've ever experienced. They focus on artists that are modern (as you might have guessed), but they do a good job of having exhibitions that display artwork from artists that you've probably never heard of, including artists that are still living and creating artwork. The curators do an excellent job providing background information on the artists and the...Read More

Who said art can't be fun? The answer to that will soon be nobody if you just make a trip to one of the First Friday events at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Each a month a different theme and a new reason to go get cultured with some of the best art in the city. I most recently attended this past April where the theme was Apocalypse. Live music, pop-up displays, and endless activities you simply can't get anywhere else during a night out on the town. I highly recommend everyone check out the Museum of Contemporary Art and especially during First...Read More

I've always loved the MCA. I like weird stuff. I like how artists can create something that seems so random, but when you read the placard describing the thought process, it makes complete sense. It's pretty inspirational. Also, the MCA is a bit more affordable than some of the other museums and it's in a great location. It's walkable in an hour or so so it's a must-see even if you're in Chicago for a short period.

You have to visit the David Bowie is exhibit happening right now at the MCA! Give yourself about 2 hours to take a tour of all of David Bowie's accomplishments. You won't believe the costumes, the original lyric sheets and the history! Very awesome!

This place is definitely worth dedicating some time to.
