Where are we going today?

Want to put a little JOY into your family day out? Well, if that family day out happens to be in Lubbock, Texas, you might want to head to Joyland Amusement Park! With over 30 rides and attractions geared for kids of all ages, there really will be something for everyone!

The great thing about Joyland Amusement Park is there are family rides which everyone can get involved in. The classic carousel is always a favorite, originally built in the early 1900s, where you can ride on your favorite pony.

The Bumper Cars are a great way for the family to enjoy a little friendly competition (nothing wrong with that!) and the Skyride is a beautiful and relaxing family friendly gondola rides with great panoramic views of the park.

Wanting something a bit more...THRILLING! Then of course, head on over to those thrill rides (not for the faint of heart!) Ever imagined yourself dropping from 140 feet at almost 50mph? Well, if you did, then the Dare Devil Drop is for you!

The Galaxi Coaster has thrills at every turn, and with a live DJ and high energy music, the Musik Express will have you holding on tight against that centrifugal force! (Kids - if you don't know what that means, ask your science teacher!)

There are of course, rides for those smaller dare devils who aren't tall enough for the big kid rides. Sweet kiddie rides - from the Big Trucks where kids can move around their "cargo", to the boats where kids can captain their own ship, are great options.

Did you know Joyland Amusement Park also has water attractions? A great way to cool down on those Texas summer days!  It’s JOYFUL!

Do not trust the advertised operating hours/days nor the excuses for closures.
I checked the website and facebook on 23 Mar 2014 - the website clearly indicated that the park was open with a front page advertisement stating "JOYLAND IS OPEN, Joyland is open 2:00 PM - Saturday and Sunday". We drove approximately 2 hours and arrived just as the park was clearly advertising they would be open -- instead found a sign on the gate "Sorry - Closed due to weather" -- on a beautiful day with blue skies and no wind. Called the park and a recording stated they were closed due to low temperatures. It was approx 55F and the forecast indicated it would increase. Asked an employee, who was also under the impression they should open and had not been notified they would not open , and he could not explain it.

To make it worse, they posted an announcement on Facebook at around 2:PM that they would not open that day. They decided to include a picture with the announcement in an attempt to show the "cold" temperatures. I also took pictures of the ridiculous sign vs actual weather (see posted pic). If you click on their picture of that day, you will see that they chose to post a picture from February instead of a picture from that gorgeous day.

Bottom line - If you have to drive a good distance to get there, have a backup plan or choose another amusement park.
