Where are we going today?

Many campsites are near the water’s edge, and hiking trails follow the lake shore. Mountain bikers can test their endurance on 12 miles of trails with beautiful views. Within the park is Will-A-Way Recreation Area, an accessible facility specifically designed for challenged populations, with a group camp, picnic and fishing areas, and paved trail. This historical park features a log fort built in 1792 by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians.

The park management needs to do a better job managing the mountain bike trails. Their system for publishing the status of the trails after poor weather is disappointing. The trail status is published on a local mountain bike club's (YABA) website, however; I have found it to be very inaccurate. To make matters worse, it is often difficult to get a park employee on the phone to check the current trail status. Today, the phone was busy for 30 minutes and when someone finally answered the phone, she could not tell me if the trails were open or not....Read More

Ft. Yargo is a great state park. It has an excellent mountain bike trail system maintained by a volunteer group called YARBA. It's approximately 13 miles of sweet single track depending on what route you take. Plus, the lake is nice, and I've rented a canoe with my son before. We had a blast. Great family park!

Today, the phone was busy for 30 minutes and when someone finally answered the phone, she could not tell me if the trails were open or not. She resorted to informing me to check the YABA website. When I replied that it was often inaccurate, she stated that the manager said for me to just check back later.

I can't figure out who is managing the mountain bike trails. Sadly, it seems that it is the local mountain bike club and not the park management. With additional fees to use the mountain bike trails pending, the park staff should do a better job of operating the trails.
