From kayaking, sailing, swimming and more there's lots of things to do on the lake! There are shaded picnic area, waterfalls and so much more. For kids, why not become a junior ranger for the day? Head to the visitor centre and ask for a ranger book, which offers an engaging and educational way to learn about the park.
You'll learn about climate change, wild fires and careers within the national park. Once complete, head back to the visitor centre and claim your badge!
With 36 miles of shoreline and a full pool in the summer the reservoir provides excellent water recreation in a beautiful mountain setting. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has dozens of miles of trails for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and horseback riding. There are trails for all abilities too, with some being wheelchair accessible! Make sure to bring some snacks and drinks with you and stay hydrated.
Many visitors come here for the crystal cear waters, so you can take a dip during the Summer to cool down and take in the views!
Car From Interstate 5, take the Highway 44 West exit toward Downtown Redding and Eureka. From Downtown Redding, follow Highway 299 west toward Eureka for approximately 8 miles to reach the Visitor Center. Plane Commercial air service is available to Redding California located approximately 16 miles from Whiskeytown. Rental vehicles are available.
