Have you ever wondered how other people lived in the past? What they might have been like?  What they ate?  Perhaps how their lives different to yours now?

The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology has a fascinating and diverse collection - from Native American totem poles, to precious artifacts of the ancient world, and even impressive Maya sculptures - that will educate kids on the history of the planet and those who have walked among it.

Kids will learn about cultures from other parts of the world, such as the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa and even the Pacific Islands.  Kids - do you think you could name some of the Pacific Islands, and guess how they might have lived?

The museum are always holding special exhibitions on fascinating topics such as the war, photography, life a few centuries ago...and they keep changing so keep and eye on what is coming up so you don't miss out!  Peabody would love to have you there. 

There are over 3000 objects on display.  Think that sounds a lot?  Well, consider they have a collection of over 1.2 MILLION objects!  Can you imagine having to sort all of that out?

So as you wander around the museum, think to yourself how these people may have lived.  What personalities they may have had, what they did for fun, and what they ate for dinner.  The wonderful thing about museums is they bring history to life - so they stories come out of the display cabinets and into the room, and your imagination.

Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology FAQ’s

There are lots of tasty restaurants in Harvard Square!

Did you know that third Saturday afternoon, the Museum hosts a fun family activity!? Most of these are included in the price of the admission, so keep an eye out!

The Museum has K-12 programs about the Aztecs, Maya, and Native Americans, as well as self-guided tours, special programs, and resources for teachers.

On Tuesdays there is a farmers' market from Noon to 6pm, held through mid June to October. You can always find some tasty and healthy foods there!

The Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology is dedicated to accessibility for all visitors. The museum galleries are located on the first, third, and fourth floors. The second floor is offices only.

The museum's front entrance at 11 Divinity Avenue is not accessible. Eight steps lead up to the front doors.

An accessible entrance is located next door at the connected Tozzer Anthropology Building, 21 Divinity Avenue. Visitors may be dropped off in front.

They offer a number of free admissions, including current Harvard ID, Massachusetts Teachers, Massachusetts residents every Sunday....etc...so check online!
