About this activity

As you approach The Pells Outdoor Swimming Pool in Lewes, the excitement in the air is palpable. The bright colors of the changing rooms and the sound of laughter and splashing make it clear that this is a place for fun, relaxation, and community.

For families looking for a fun and affordable way to spend a day in the sun, The Pells is a perfect choice. Here are just a few reasons why:

First and foremost, the pool itself is a joy to swim in. It's an Olympic-sized pool, which means that there's plenty of room for everyone to splash, play, and practice their strokes. The water is always crystal clear, and the temperature is just right – refreshing on a hot day, but not so cold that you can't stay in for long.

But The Pells is more than just a pool – it's a whole experience. The surrounding area is a beautiful, grassy park that's perfect for picnics, games, and sunbathing. There are plenty of benches and tables for families to use, as well as a playground for younger children to enjoy. There's even a small café that serves snacks, drinks, and ice cream.

One of the things that sets The Pells apart from other swimming pools is its history. It's been open since 1860, making it one of the oldest outdoor swimming pools in the country. It's been lovingly maintained over the years, and there's a real sense of tradition and community spirit here. Everyone who visits feels like they're part of something special.

And that's because they are. The Pells is a community-run pool, which means that it's owned and operated by the people of Lewes. It's not a corporate chain or a faceless entity – it's a place where locals come together to swim, socialize, and have fun. That sense of community is palpable as soon as you arrive, and it's part of what makes The Pells such a special place.

For families, The Pells is particularly appealing because it's so affordable. Admission prices are very reasonable, and there are discounts available for families and groups. There are also swimming lessons available for children and adults, which are a great way to improve your skills and gain confidence in the water.

But perhaps the best thing about The Pells for families is the atmosphere. There's a real sense of joy and relaxation here, as families play together in the sun and enjoy the simple pleasures of swimming and lounging. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and there's a real sense that you're part of something special when you visit.

Of course, safety is always a concern when it comes to swimming pools. But at The Pells, safety is taken very seriously. There are always trained lifeguards on duty, and the pool is regularly inspected to ensure that it's clean and well-maintained. There are also plenty of safety guidelines posted around the pool to remind visitors of how to stay safe in and around the water.

All in all, The Pells Outdoor Swimming Pool in Lewes is a real gem. It's a place where families can come together to enjoy the sun, the water, and each other's company. With its affordable admission prices, beautiful surroundings, and welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder that The Pells has been a favorite destination for generations of locals and visitors alike. Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or a newbie, a family with young children, or a group of friends, The Pells is the perfect place to spend a lazy summer day.
