South Downs National Park is an incredible experience for the whole family, no matter what age. In fact, humans have been enjoy the magic of this park for centuries!
Not only have the centuries of human habitation shaped the South Downs National Park, but also the landscape has and still does, dictate where humans have chosen to live and work the land.
The landscapes of the South Downs National Park are rich in folklore and legend - something that has inspired generations of writers, artists and storytellers all of whom have flocked to witness the beauty of various elements including the rolling chalk downland as well as the wooded heaths of the National Park.

Right back to the days of the Neolithic peoples, through to Roman occupation and to present day, South Downs National Park is a landscape steeped in the history of peoples who have called Britain their home.
Today, YOU can visit the park, and because they feel so strongly about conservation they encourage people to use public transport. As a result, you can pick up a Discovery Pass which allows you to hop on / hop off the bus which can take you around the national park to enjoy various sites!

Train is the easiest, quickest way to get to the South Downs National Park. With regular trains departing from London Waterloo and London Victoria, it takes 60 – 90 minutes to get into the National Park.
