Beamish is a fascinating and fun world famous living history open air museum, that brings to life the history of North East England throughout the 19th and 20th centuries!
Kids don't have to read history books here, they just have to LIVE it!
Throughout your time at Beamish, you can meet costumed "locals" and heard the fascinating stories of daily life within the region through time. We imagine it's quite different from life today!
Kids can make their way around the 1900s Town and see first hand how families lived and worked in those years leading up to WWI.
Then you can make your way to the 1950s Town and discover life in the in the mid-20th century!
Take a peek and see what’s cooking in the pit cottages, or maybe practise your handwriting in the school! Don't forget to stop at the chapel for a visit!
Another hightlight for the children at Beamish are the pit ponies in their stables!

With farmland and gardens to top your day off, immerse yourself in the rich history of North East England at Beamish, Living Museum of the North!
From the North and South – Follow the A1M to Junction 63 (Chester-le-Street exit), then the A693 towards Stanley for 4 miles, following the signs.
From the West – Take the A68 to Castleside, near Consett, and follow the Beamish Museum signs along the A692 and A693 via Stanley.

You certainly won't go hungry for history OR food at Beamish! Choose from pubs, bakeries, tea rooms, fish & chip shops, cafes and coffee shops, you'll find an amazing array of options!
They always have exciting events and activities coming up, so check out their What’s On page on their website as well as and social media to keep track of it all!
The Beamish Gift Shop is filled with great gifts and souvenirs including enamel signs, magnets, Top Trumps, mugs, tea towels, biscuits and more! Plus, as a registered charity, your support in the gift shop supports the museum!
In addition to the Museum Shop you can also find Jubilee Confectioners, Herron’s Bakery and stalls in The 1900s Town.
Check with Beamish when they are offering school visits (it's SUCH a great place for students!), however even when the museum is not available for schools, they will still be running remote learning and outreach sessions.
Teachers can also take up their offer of 2 free tickets so you can visit ahead of time!
Accessible facilities are available in all areas within the museum.
Keep in mind that Beamish is a large open air museum with many historic buildings, some of which are not always completely accessible to visitors. They do however have a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle every day that the museum is open. This is available on-call and is limited to its seated capacity.
Your tickets are "unlimited" meaning that you can visit as many times as you like for a whole year!
