Siding Spring Observatory provides world-class optical and infrared observing facilities enabling Australian astronomers to do excellent science. The SSO is a world leader in astronomical research and in the development of innovative telescope instrumentation. Its function is to provide world-class observing facilities for Australian optical astronomers.
Which means – it’s pretty impressive!
There is a visitors’ gallery and exhibition area open to the public which also incorporates a cafe and souvenir shop. During NSW school holidays, guided tours of the site are offered.
