About this activity

History is amazing! Not only are there so many stories to be told, but there are so many to be told from just right under your feet! The High Plains Museum is a fascinating experience where the family can be taken through the last century of Northwest Kansas.

The people of Western Kansas are descendants of the solider, the farmer, the homesteader, the Native American, the teacher, the entrepreneur....they are stories of real people who walked the same ground your family is walking now!

The past 100 years are presented and preserved in the High Plains Museum ready for your family to experience!

The museum features amazing objects in both temporary and permanent exhibits. In fact, there are over 8,000 objects in the entire collection - so there is much to see!

The museum really enables all adventurers and history buffs to discover this rich history of Sherman County, as well as places beyond it's limits.

What's also fun about the High Plains Museum is there are various educational activities which you can download from the site before you go, then try and complete scavenger hunts around the local area! What a cool idea!

Make sure you check out the exhibits which are changing too, to make sure you don't miss out. There are some pretty amazing ones, like when they celebrate Kansas Day and you can build your own Kansas Structure, listen to stories of the state and go on your own scavenger hunt!

So if you LOVE history, especially local history, then the High Plains Museum might be right up your alley!
