What is there to do?

What's really impressive, is that the Mariners Museum features over 90,000 sq ft of gallery space just filled with rare figureheads, handcrafted ship models, Civil War ironclad USS Monitor artifacts, paintings and much more, offering an insight into the maritime history of the region!

The exhibition galleries with the Mariners Museum are home to so many fascinating artifacts, and covering a range of themes.

You can see an incredible collection of Model Ships, giving you a detailed, close up look at some of the most iconic ships in history, including the Jamestown steamboat!

There's an exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of America's involvement in WWI, as well as the great Age of Exploration exhibit, that chronicles, the developments of shipbuilding and ocean navigation of voyages from the 15th century right through to the 18th century!

Kids will love the fun hands-on "Discovery Library" here, allowing them to examine reproductions of early navigational instruments and books, and they can learn all about why Horatio Nelson was considered one of the world's greatest naval heroes!

Let's not forget about the collections at the Mariners Museum, with over 32,00 objects! Highlights include the collection of 92 figureheads, making it one of the largest figurehead collection in the world, a life vest from HMS Titanic, and a 19th century Medicine Chest!

What's also great about the Mariners Museum, is that it sits in an urban oasis, with it's home in a 550 acre park, with a 167 lake, AND a 5-mile trail, so it's a beautiful area to visit (and explore when your museum adventure has finished!)
