The Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology is recognised as the fourth largest collection of Greek ceramics in Britain! It's a fun day out that offers children lots of interesting learning opportunities.
The Ure Museum holds collections of archaeological material, archives and modern artefacts. The archaeological collections are primarily Greek, with important Egyptian, Cypriot, and Roman artefacts. The archives comprise correspondence, photographs, diaries, notes, maps and ephemera relating chiefly to early 20th century archaeology in Greece, the history of the Ure Museum and its collections and the personal research of the Museum’s founders, Annie and Percy Ure. The Museum’s modern collections include reproductions (casts) and modern art. So if you wamt to learn something new whilst browsing with your friends and family and having fun, go and visit!
The collection primarily consists of material from the Greek and Greco-Roman civilisations of the Mediterranean, most notably Greek and Etruscan ceramics and terracottas.
They run various interesting events throughout the year which are worth looking out for; this includes object handling, Troy in tbe 21st Century, Growing Music from Nature, and Hidden Women in the Ure.
