Havergate Island is a small island on the River Ore and is famous for it's wildlife and birds! It's a haven for large numbers od ducks and wading bris and you'll also get to see brown hares at close range too.
Access to the nature reserve is only via boat and on pre-booked trips only. The boats leave Orford Quay at 10am on the first Saturday of every month and on special events. Just check the website before you go so you know when the trips are happening.
On your visit you'll see a variety of species. You'll get to see the barn owls when they have young to feed, watch common terns raise their young in the spring and summer months by visiting the hides and watch as the pintails flock her in autumn and winter, there's lots to see! Make sure to bring your camera and take some pictures!
You'll join a self-guided trip where you'll explore the hides and trails at your own pace, but if you prefer to be with a guide then you can do that as well! The trip lasts for around five hours and you'll see lots on your travels.
Access by boat from Orford Quay. The village of Orford is located 17 km (11 miles) to the north-east of Woodbridge; the village is signposted off the A12.
