About this activity

The Suffolk Punch Trust is a charitable organization located in Suffolk, England. The organization was established in 2002 to protect and conserve the rare Suffolk Punch horse breed, as well as to promote education and awareness about the breed and its importance in Suffolk's history and culture.

The Suffolk Punch horse is a rare breed that has been in existence for over 400 years. They were once a common sight in the fields and farms of East Anglia, but the breed's numbers began to decline in the 20th century due to the increasing use of tractors and other machinery in agriculture. By the 1960s, there were only a few dozen Suffolk Punches left in the world, and the breed was in danger of becoming extinct.

The Suffolk Punch Trust was formed to address this problem and ensure the survival of the breed. The organization's main focus is on breeding and caring for Suffolk Punch horses, with the goal of increasing their numbers and preserving their unique genetic heritage. The Trust also runs a visitor center, which offers educational programs, tours, and other activities that allow people to learn about the breed and its role in Suffolk's history.

One of the Trust's most important initiatives is its breeding program. The organization maintains a herd of Suffolk Punch horses, carefully selecting breeding pairs to ensure genetic diversity and the health and well-being of the offspring. The Trust also works with other organizations and breeders to exchange breeding stock and promote genetic diversity across the wider Suffolk Punch population.
