Where are we going today?

Wildlife West Nature Park, a wildlife preserve and "enhanced zoo," is located just 20 minutes from Albuquerque, New Mexico in nearby Edgewood. Conveniently located near Interstate 40, Wildlife West Nature Park provides a very special look into the animals and plants that are part of the ecosystems of New Mexico and the Southwestern United States. All the birds and animals at Wildlife West Nature Park are nonreleasable, in keeping with our philosophy of bringing education to the public without harming ecological balances in other parts of the region. Our habitats are designed to provide the best possible combination of viewing opportunities and harmonious living for our residents, and our animal enrichment programs ensure that our animals are both physically and mentally healthy.

Doing our bit

Wildlife West is dedicated to sustainable design and construction practices. Unlike many conventional zoos, we have made a concerted effort to minimize our disturbance of the ecosystem to the maximum extent possible, preferring to seek harmony between our designs and the environment in which they are placed. Wildlife West has a certain advantage to this; since all our captive species are native to the Southwest, they are generally already well-adapted to the environment in which they live..

Nice enough place, and unlike some reviewers, I knew what to expect. Reviewer Brown, clearly, did not. These animals cannot be immediately released into the forest, like he wants. The zoo is a rehabiliation center for animals that cannot make it on their own, due to injury or human imprinting. Reckon he missed that little tidbit of information. If they were released, they would starve to death. So, no.

Just one more prison in the vast American penal system. And most of the jailbirds (and other creatures) are in solitary confinement Every animal in the place needs to be immediately released into the forest. The Peregrine falcon was actually screaming its rage. .

The animals are unbelievable curious. They Mountain Lions came up to the windows, the deer came up to the fence, the Wolves jumped up and down in acknowledgement and on and on...

We loved this place and will return.

An okay place to visit at least once. Not much for animal movement or activity. A new addition of a bull elk was the highlight. Other animals are to hard to see and only lay around. Not much for excitement.

No, I don't work at Wildlife West, nor do I have any connection to it. I just can't stand boneheaded reviews. Sorry, it's one of my pet peeves.
