Did you know that the South Florida Museum is the LARGEST natural and cultural history museum on Florida's entire Gulf Coast? The museum features exhibits that cover local history from Pleistocene to the present, with stunning life-size dioramas and dramatic exhibits based on its extensive collections of anthropological artifacts, paleontological specimens and objects of cultural interest - phew!
So what does that mean kids? Well, it means that you can see fossil evidence of the state's earliest mammals and marine species (here's a hint, they're pretty old!), as well as check out the collection of artifacts that represent Paleo-Indian, archaic and pre-contact cultures.
Make sure you stop to look at the HUGE woolly mammoth skeleton, it's pretty impressive - just imagine that walking around on the Earth!
Did you know that the South Florida Museum also features an all digital Planetarium, as well as a Manatee Rehabilitation Aquarium?
So it's not just the land that you can explore, it's the sea and sky too!
Who knew there was so much to learn about South Florida's history, so why not head down to this fascinating museum and see what you just might discover - it might really surprise you!
