The African American Museum

Dallas, TX

Where are we going?

The African American Museum
3536 Grand Avenue

What is there to do?

The African American Museum is a fascinating museum in Dallas that is dedicated to the research, identification, selection, acquisition, presentation and preservation of visual art forms and historical documents that relate to the African American community.

What does that mean? Well, it means that for kids and families who visit, you get to learn all about African American culture, history, traditions and so much more!  In fact, it's the only museum of it's kind in the Southwestern region.

The museum features changing exhibits, so there can always be something new for you to go back to explore. One visit you might be exploring the role of slavery at Jefferson's Monticello, and the next you might be learning about art created by female black artists.

It's also home to one of the largest African American Folk Art collections in the US too!

Art and history are the focus, and kids who visit can be inspired by what they see. It's also a great way for them to learn outside of reading books. They can see and feel first hand the stories behind the exhibits and artifacts.

Keep an eye out for family tours at the African American Museum too!

A fascinating day out in Dallas for families who love to learn and explore!
