About this activity

Explore art history spanning 300 years at the New Britain Museum of American Art, where over 8,300 paintings, sculptures, photographs and illustrations, all by American artists tell their own stories!

Kids can be inspired as they make their way around the various genres and collections, especially if they have an interest in art, or perhaps are studying it.

Among the highlights of the collection are colonial and federal portraits, as well as 19th century still lifes. There are also a significant number of post-Civil War figural painting and sculpture, as well as a notable Impressionist collection!

In addition to the permanent collections, the New Britain Museum of American Art also feature changing exhibits that often feature a specific artist or style.

Because these change, you can head back and see something new on your next visit!

If those kids were inspired by what they saw, they can join the programs just for kids, even as young as Early Learners, where those creative mind and hands can get to work and actually create!

An art-inspired family day out in Connecticut, where history is told through art instead of books, and those creative juices might just start flowing as you experience 300 years of American art history!
