For a family day out with a fascianting history, why not explore El Santuario de Chimayo?
This Roman Catholic church is a National Historic Landmark, and famous for the story of it's founding, as well as a contemporary pilgrimage site.
More suited for the older kids, this shrine has been called the "Lourdes of America". There is a mystery surrounding how it came about, so kids - get researching and maybe you can find out!
It is believed that this tiny shrine was built on the site of what many people believe to have been a miracle, with the area possessing curative powers.
It's a fascinating day out in one of the most important catholic sites in the state, and a great day out surrounded by history!
