Cahir Castle

Cahir Castle is one of the best preserved scastles in Ireland and stands proudly on a rock island on the River Suir. The castle was built in the thirteenth century and served the powerful Butler family. 

Your visit contains an excellence audiovisual show, telling you the detailed appreciation of the castle's long history. Visitors flock to the castle as it's played a number of roles in films and TV too. Take one of the tours with one of the enthusiastic guides and discover the history of the family who lived here and about its colourful history. 

Visit the tall towers, narrow corridors and winding staircase and you take in the medieval interiors. You can enjoy views of the surroundings from the tower windows too. See thecastle defences and spot the canoonball which was fired during the 1599 siege. There's also an exhibition which features a model of the castle under attack. 

There's a range of items in the gift shops, from swords, to helmets, books and more. You can also get the little ones to dress up as knights and princesses and soldiers which make great photos!
