Where are we going today?

York Area Children’s Museum is a fun, colorful and most importantly safe place for kids to spend the day learning and playing.  Each exhibit area has its own character which really encourages their creative sides.

The craft room is where their creatives sides can run wild as they explore this jungle themed area.  Colorful crayons, fun stickers and other creative craft items are available for those kids who like to get their hands messy as they create a masterpiece.

For those budding scientists fascinating microscopes are just one of the items available to really get hands on with in the science room.

Then there is the “big room” - do want to know what is in the big room?  We thought so!  Where to start....for toddlers there is a great little area where games such as chunky puzzles and easy manipulative toys can be found.

Above toddler area is a tree house (yes a treehouse!) which is great for keeping an eye on the toddlers, reading, but also features lovely wooden toy sets such as a toy farmstead and firehouse for kids to play with.

There is a beautiful and engaging playhouse for girls who want to be mommy for the day, a veterinary clinic where puppies and kitten await someone to come and look after them, the Cornerstone Bank where kids can learn about depositing and banking, and a construction zone where bricks, slides and conveyor belts will really keep them entertained!

Sounds like fun?

Room fair, stayed in the garden wing, tiling in bathroom needs attention. Leisure suite basic and needs refurbishment but adequate if only staying a couple of days. Breakfast very expensive, I had most my meals at Baileys Cafe, very good value for money. Only other critism was the constant noise of a fan of some sort outside the bedroom window which you csn still here with the window shut (very annoying). Would stay sgain on discounted rates but would want a quieter room.

It's ok. I paid £140 for the "superior" room. It was not large and had a pokey little bathroom. Contemporary decor; nice view, clean and good condition but maybe not what I expected for a grand old Victorian hotel. No wifi signal in the room. The website says they do cocktails in the bar but the staff were rather put out when we asked for one.

Beautiful old building but for the money I expected more.

I made a booking and then was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews on here.

We had our overnight stay in a very nice grand hotel, with a nice room looking out over the gardens with views of York Minster in the distance and the river, the wall around York and York itself.
Its in a very good position, next to the train station, ideal if arriving by train and just as easy to get to by car.

Discusted having to pay for parking when the property comes with car parking space. Very dated i have stayed in 2/3 star hotels that have been nicer. Tried the hilton prior to.staying here, hilton is much nicer however they also charge for parking but their car parking space is very limited

Interior is a bit dated, very squeeky floors. on the upside, right next to the train station.

We had our overnight stay in a very nice grand hotel, with a nice room looking out over the gardens with views of York Minster in the distance and the river, the wall around York and York itself.
Its in a very good position, next to the train station, ideal if arriving by train and just as easy to get to by car.

Very helpful staff, nice room, great breakfast in a dining room with lots of room, pool and gym available, and on site parking although there is a charge for parking like most hotels in York.
The position of the hotel means you are only a few minutes walk away from most things in York so ideal for tourist to this great city.

Why only 4 stars?
We had a 30 minute wait for our room to be ready. We arrived early at 11:30am and checked in and was told room would be ready at 3pm which we expected. We then went in to York, came back at 3:30pm only to be told we would have to wait a bit longer which we did in the hotel bar.
The bar was quite expensive and this was the only time we had a drink in there.
The staff did keep us informed and brought our room key to us as soon as the room was ready for us.
These are the only reasons for not giving the hotel 5 star rating.

Very Good Hotel with Great Staff.
