Well maintained museum with diverse collection of art. Some impressive, enormous American landscapes, some lesser known impressionist paintings, a couple of pretty stained glass windows, and some Edward Hoppers.
Not on the mall with the other museums but worth a visit and still in very central DC and easy to get to. Because of its proximity to Chinatown this would be a good stop close to lunch or dinner time as there are a lot of eating options nearby. I love to check out the exhibits here and at the National Portrait Gallery since they're in the one building. You get two museums in one space. I especially love the courtyard just for hanging out. It has natural light, beautiful architecture and free wifi. It's a really good place to work if you're a mobile professional. Or you can just people watch.

Shares a space with the National Portrait Gallery so you can go between both. This museum is well curated. It's a good size so you can finish viewing in a few hours. There is a nice resting space in the middle of the museum with trees and a fountain. Very calming.

I've been to this museum three times, and still haven't seen everything. The most captivating section - for me - has to be Dutch art. It's a little dark, but it has such vivid images, and the craft-ship behind some of the paintings is spectacular, that, upon first look, they some times do not seem like paintings at all. I frequent this museum, and will continue to do so as long as I am in the area.

Their art of video game exhibit in 2012 was very interesting, with generations of video games and consuls, and even some retro games you can play. In other parts of the museum you can see Electronic Superhighway, where the iUnited States Map in neon overlaying a series of screens.
